Hau Pei-tsun (郝柏村), a former premier, is one of the highest-ranking retired ROC generals who saw action as a young officer in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.  Last year Hau went to the Mainland three times at his own expenses and visited a dozen of the battlefields in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.  Four retired ROC generals, i.e.,  Fu Ying-chuan (傅應川), He Shi-tong (何世同), Hu Chu-sheng, and Huang Ping-lin (黃炳麟), co-authored a new book, titled “Hau Pei-tsun Revisits Old Battlefields in the War of Resistance Against Japan Aggression (郝柏村重返抗日戰場).”

During his new book presentation yesterday, Hau’s old friends and former subordinates showed up, including Gen. Hsu Li-nung (許歷農), chairman of the New Alliance Association, Gen. Ting Yu-chou (丁渝洲), a former secretary-general of the National Security Council, Hu Wei-chen (胡為真), a  senior Presidential advisor, Hsu Li-teh (徐立德), a former vice premier, and Hsu Shui-teh (許水德), a former ROC representative to Japan.

Hau stated that Japan would not have surrendered if it were not for the eight-year far-sighted strategies and preparations by the ROC Armed Forces.  Hau went on to say that as a veteran who experienced the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, he must pass on the historical facts to future generations of the Chinese nation.  Hau pointed out that the historical facts of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression had been distorted and muddied because the truth was rewritten on the Mainland and the people in Taiwan have gradually forgotten the past.  Hau added that without the victory over Japan, Taiwan today would have been totally different.  Hau indicated that the release of the book was aimed to remind the younger generations on both sides of the Taiwan Strait about the historical truth of the heroic war.

Hau stressed that the Armed Forces and people of the ROC fought in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression under the command of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek for the survival of the Chinese nation.  Furthermore, Hau noted, the Eighth Route Army (八路軍), and New Fourth Army (新四軍), led by Chinese Communist Party, were also under the command of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and flying the same ROC national flag.
